If you can choose when to travel, choose autumn. From mid-September to late October the Caucasus is at its most generous: warm days, clear air and a landscape that turns gold.
The harvest
Rtveli, the grape harvest, fills Kakheti with families picking by hand, pressing in wooden troughs and feasting in the vineyards. Visitors are welcome to join in and many of our guests leave with purple-stained fingers and a few new friends.
The mountains
Larch and birch turn yellow in Kazbegi and Svaneti, and the first snow often dusts the peaks while the valleys remain mild. Visibility is excellent, which makes it a favourite season for photographers.
Across the borders
In Azerbaijan, Sheki and the Caucasus foothills glow with pomegranates and persimmons. In Armenia, the vineyards of Areni and the slopes around Lake Sevan are at their best.
Autumn is also our busiest season, so private departures should be booked a few months ahead.
